Educators Praise PLC Process

School Board members saw firsthand the enthusiasm educators have for the professional learning community (PLC) process at its January 9^th meeting. The CFHS Geometry collaborative team, the English Department from Holmes Junior High, and the 1^st Grade teachers from Lincoln Elementary all shared information about their experiences, successes and struggles.

The board heard a few common themes from all three groups:

• The importance and appreciation of the time (Tuesday late starts or Wednesday early outs) for PLC work.
• The personal commitment and excitement for the PLC process’s ability to ensure all students learn and also that they as teachers continue to learn best teaching practices.

Email System Change

Our district has switched email systems, therefore; our old email addresses (example@cedar-falls.k12.ia.us) will no longer work.  The new addresses (firstname.lastname@cfschools.org) are effective immediately.

Due to the fact that school was cancelled on Friday, January 20, 2012, school WILL be in session on Monday, February 20, 2012. This was a scheduled snow make-up day on the 2011-2012 calendar. Please call 319.553.3000 if you have any questions.

Preschool enrollment for the 2012-2013 school year will begin February 1, 2012. Please follow these steps to enroll your child:

Click on the "Parent" tab,
Click on the "Preschool" tab,
Download and print an enrollment form, and
Send your completed form to the Cedar Falls Administration Center.

Children must be four (4) years old by September 15, 2012 and live within the boundaries of the Cedar Falls School District to enroll in preschool.

Spring PK-6 Parent / Teacher Conferences will be held on Tuesday, February 7^th, 2012, and Thursday, February 9^th, 2012. There will be no school for PK-6 on Thursday, February 9^th, 2012, and Friday, February 10^th, 2012.  These conferences will replace the conferences that were scheduled for March 27^th and 29^th, 2012. There will be school on Thursday and Friday, March 29^th and March 30^th, 2012 for PK-6 students.

New Student Registration

New students moving into the Cedar Falls School District should contact the district administrative center as soon as possible so that records may be obtained from the previous school of attendance. You will need to make an appointment at the Administration Center to register your child(ren), who are new to the District, for school. You will also be asked to provide a copy of your child(ren)’s birth certificate(s), as well as two proofs of residency at the time of registration.  Please call 553.2644 for additional information.
